Sustainability at SV Hotel
We have been managing and running hotels since 2006. We started actively promoting sustainability in our hotels years ago with commitments such as using electricity from hydropower and our partnership with myclimate to create climate-neutral rooms. In 2022, we joined the Swisstainable programme and have committed to developing a sustainability concept for all our hotels and a sustainability training programme for our employees.

We are thinking beyond the F&B sector when it comes to sustainability in the future – with an expanded strategy for Switzerland and Germany that also focuses on buildings, operations and sustainable materials.

The increasing importance of sustainability
In an interview with Marco Meier, Managing Director of SV Hotel, he emphasises the increasing importance of sustainability in the hotel industry. The key issues are sustainability standards for buildings, efficient operations and sustainable materials for interiors and fittings.

Efficiency from the building to facility
management
We have been managing and running hotels since 2006. We started actively promoting sustainability in our hotels years ago with commitments such as using electricity from hydropower and our partnership with myclimate to create climate-neutral rooms. We have also invested a great deal in raising awareness among our guests and have, for example, already held several cooking courses on sustainable nutrition for our immediate neighbourhood. In future, we will continue to expand our sustainability activities: from the selection of sustainable devices and materials, to efficient building management and buildings that meet the highest possible sustainability standards.
When it comes to food and beverages, our hotels are already subject to the same sustainability requirements as our restaurants in community and public catering. As a Marriott International franchisee, our Marriott brand hotels (Courtyard, Renaissance, Residence Inn and Moxy) are already connected to Marriott’s Serve 360 sustainability platform.
With our own brand Stay KooooK, we have developed a concept that is fully in line with the concept of sustainable travel. We have already implemented a number of sustainability measures for our first Stay KooooK, which opened in Bern Wankdorf in September 2020. We are continuing to work on our sustainability concept to fulfil our responsibility towards the environment and our employees in all our hotels and to provide our guests with a sustainable travel experience. To underpin this, we joined the Swisstainable programme in 2022 and have committed to developing a sustainability concept for all our hotels and a sustainability training programme for our employees.

All 32 SV Hotel properties in Switzerland and Germany were awarded the internationally recognized Green Key certification in 2026. With this certification, the hotels are committed to a structured sustainability management system and are continuously refining their processes.
Green Key is an internationally recognized certification program for lodging establishments. It is based on clearly defined, regularly reviewed criteria in the areas of environmental management (e.g., energy, water, waste, cleaning) and education for sustainable development (for guests, employees, and suppliers).
Our decision to pursue Green Key certification is based on the following considerations:
Practical criteria developed specifically for the hotel industry
Regular external audits that ensure transparent implementation
Uniform environmental standards for all participating hotels
A guest-oriented approach without compromising on comfort and quality
Integration into an international network that promotes the exchange of ideas on sustainability
